A Rather Large Amount of Gratitude

Last night, I was poking around the internet finding quotes about gratitude to add to my collection, and I came across some words that appear in the Winnie the Pooh collection, written by A. A. Milne. Of all of the quotes I considered, the Milne words captured my attention the most.

I even went to bed last night having doodled the quote in my journal – I often copy words that inspire me. This quote felt so entirely charming I had to hold it in my own handwriting to properly appreciate its truth.

This afternoon, with a bunch of Monday still in my step, I was cleaning the kitchen and noticed I hadn't flipped the pages in the beloved day by day calendar that my friend, Lori, gives me every year. I was actually 10 days behind – an unusual oversight on my part.

When I got to today's date, November 20th – I found the same quote I loved so much from last night. It sort of made me gasp. Life is magic like that. It can take your breath away – how one second it's an oversight and the next, it's a sight to behold.

“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart,

it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” A. A. Milne

Winnie-the-Pooh Collection

All day I've been thinking about the large amount of gratitude the human heart can hold – and how important it is to acknowledge it. Because reminding yourself that you actually do hold more thankfulness than you can realize in the grind of every day life gives you all sorts of access to positive emotion.

To me, having this particular quote show up in my kitchen, the morning after I had (randomly-not-randomly) discovered it on my computer for the first time and then copied it in my own journal before bed affirms what was already my choice at this time of year:  to focus on gratitude.

Gratitude was already invited into my intention for this week, for December – for this year end – but with Piglet's revelation coming to my attention twice – without any effort, Gratitude makes a grand entrance!

I am absolutely certain – that rather large amount of Gratitude is exactly what I want to be sharing and feeling this week and for the rest of this year.

I know you do, too.

Let Gratitude make a grand entrance. Let it turn heads. Let it stop the show. Let it captivate the room. Let it be something you notice in your very own Human Sized Heart – we all, every single one of us, can hold more thankfulness. And that's a good thing. It may be the best thing about us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sending love to you + your families this week, and as always – so grateful to be sharing life with this community.

We do this together!
